Iran Cinema commemorates Mollaqolipour

In conjunction with Iranian filmmaker Rasoul Mollaqolipour’s 10th passing anniversary, a tree has been planted at the Film Museum of Iran in his memory.

The Film Museum of Iran commemorated the deceased Iranian filmmaker by planting a sapling in its courtyard on Saturday.

Mollaqolipour’s family, friends and colleagues attended the special ceremony held a day before Arbor Day.

Actors Saeed Poursamimi, Jamshid Hashempour and Habib Dehqan-Nasab, director Azizollah Hamidnejad, producer Mehdi Karimi, and Director of the Film Museum of Iran Mohammad Heidari delivered speeches at the ceremony.

Ali Mollaqolipour’s son, who is also a director, said that he is very thankful because his father liked planting trees.

Hashempour who starred in some of Mollaqolipour’s films, praised the museum for the ceremony and said, “He will be remembered as long as the tree is growing.”

Born in 1955 in the Iranian capital, Tehran, Rasoul Mollaqolipour is an Iranian film director, producer and screenwriter who began his career as a photographer and made his directorial debut with the 16mm feature film ‘Neinava’.

He directed a number of movies, including ‘A Boat to the Beach’, ‘The Horizon’, ‘Majnoon’, ‘The Refugee’, ‘The Survivors’, ‘A Trip to Chazabeh’, ‘Help Me’, ‘Heeva’, ‘The Burnt Generation’, ‘Poisonous Mushroom’ and ‘My Father's Farm’, the latter of which mostly dealt with the eight-year Iraq-Iran war and its aftermath.

His film ‘Flight at Night’ received the Best Film Award at the 5th edition of the Fajr International Film Festival.

‘Heeva’ received the Crystal Simorgh for Best Directing and Best Film at the 17th edition of the Fajr International Film Festival.

Rasoul Mollaqolipour died on March 5, 2007 in Nowshahr, Mazandaran Province, Iran.
